Awadhesh Kumar (Executive Director)
Founder & Executive Director
Awadhesh Kumar is the Founder and Executive Director of Balajee Sewa Sansthan (BSS) with over 24 years of experience in social development. His work spans rural development, preventive health, TB, HIV-AIDS, and tobacco control, with a strong focus on serving underprivileged communities.
He has been actively engaged in tobacco control for more than a decade and was honored with the WHO Award (2023) on World No Tobacco Day by the Hon’ble Union Health Minister. Under his leadership, BSS has received multiple recognitions from the State Government and national networks.
Awadhesh has played a key role in pioneering initiatives such as Tobacco-Free Mahakumbh 2021, Tobacco-Free Char Dham Yatra 2022, AAO Gaon Chalein – Uttarakhand ko Tambaku Mukt Banayein, and Tobacco-Free Industrial Workplaces. He also founded the Uttarakhand Tobacco Free Coalition (UTFC), recognized as one of India’s strongest tobacco control coalitions.
Beyond health, his multisectoral work includes rural tourism models, women’s self-help groups, farmer collectives, sanitation initiatives, and large-scale disaster relief. He is a member of several State-level coordination committees under government programs.
Ajit S Tomar
Ajit S Tomar comes to Micro Credit arena with over 40 years of experience in Govt. and a Public Sector Bank. As a seasoned professional who has first-hand knowledge of the needs of the agricultural and horticultural industries and coming from a finance driven background, he is well aware of the need of retail loans, Micro Finance and also importance of skill development of the staff at all levels of an organization. He has an experience of over14 years as a top manager with a progressive public sector bank dealing with financial needs of socially and economically deprived classes, retail lending, agriculture and priority lending at Branch and Regional office level. After retiring as Assistant General Manager he was associated with an emerging MFI in Dehradun and an NGO working for the poor and Ultra poor. Mr. Tomar has a Degree in Agriculture and CAIIB from Indian Institute of Bankers.
In the Bank he headed branches in Rural and Urban areas, various departments at the Regional level and attended trainings conducted by Banks, RBI, NABARD and an exposure visit to Israel.
Ajit Singh is voluntary working as the chief advisor of Balajee Sewa Sansthan. He is awarded Tobacco Free Champion award in 2024 in 6th NCTOH in new Delhi by Director General of Health GOI.
S C Bansal
S C Bansal- Mr Bansal earned MA (Economics) and CAIIB and working experience of 35 Years in Punjab National Bank in various capacities i.e. scale I , scale II, scale III, scale IV in various categories like Ist man, IInd man, credit incharge, etc. After retirement as Senior Chief Manager he worked as State Director for RSETIs for 14 months, wherein MoRD, Govt. Of India, State Govt. and concerned lead bank of the District are the stake holders. The job profile of RSETI is to train unemployed youth with various vocational trainings with motivational touch and to settle them as self-employed/ entrepreneur. Mr. Bansal is a very good motivator and trainer.
Ashutosh Bharadwaj
Ashutosh Bharadwaj – Ashutosh is a founding member and secretary of the organization and associated with Balajee Sewa Sansthan since 2002 & has played a key role in implementation of development activities under the banner of Balajee Sewa Sansthan. Ashutosh initiated & leads the water & sanitation campaign, helping number of beneficiaries to lead a safe & hygienic life. Ashutosh also leads the financial literacy programmes of BSS in Bihar.
Sarita Kumari
Sarita Kumari – Having rich experience in Training, HR management and IEC Materials, documentation. She earned MBA degree and has 14 years of experience in social as well as corporate sector. She is looking after Training and regimental activities of all field worker as well as monitoring and reporting of SHGs.
Mamta Thappa (Project Director)
Mamta Thappa heads the Tobacco Control Programme in Uttarakhand at BSS and brings over 15 years of experience in the development sector. Her work focuses on women’s empowerment, child education, governance, and preventive health.
She holds a Master’s degree in Law and is a strong advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. Mamta is a national-level trainer on tobacco control and Panchayati Raj institutions. She is an active member of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network (APRRN), a Women Brand Ambassador of UTFC, and an empanelled ICC member under the Sexual Harassment Act for multiple institutions.
Chandrakanta(Program Head, HIV-AIDS (TI) Program)
Chandrakanta – Having rich experience in HIV-AIDS and health issues, She is young and dynamic Grass Root level experienced team leader of Balajee Sewa Sansthan with more than 16 years experience in rural health and awareness services among Migrant populations, Truckers & Transit in slums area of Uttarakhand.
Chandrkanta earns Master in Social Work and vast experience in preventive Health. Presently she is working as a Project Manager in Targeted Intervention Program on HIV-AIDS, sponsored by Uttarakhand Aids Control Society, Dehradun. She working with HIV-AIDS for 15000 Migrant workers, 5000 Truckers and 5000 Transit in Dehradun and Ghansali town of district Tehri Garhwal. The project is sponsored by Uttarakhand State Aids Control Society, Dehradun. She is also elected as board member of Balajee Sewa Sansthan.
Dr Sonam Gupta
Dr Sonam Gupta is a Dental Surgeon and master in public health degree holder. She is looking at Tobacco Cessation Program. She has more than 6 years of experience in health program at the state level management. She is hardworking and committed to work in social sector. She is currently working as senior program co-ordinator on Tobacco Cessation in BSS while she also work one year with National Health Mission, Uttarakhand as state coordinator and previously served with the National Health Mission, Uttarakhand as a State Coordinator.
Dr Shreya Kaul
Dr Shreya earned Dental Surgeon and master in public health degree with more than 3 years of work experience. She is looking at Tobacco Cessation Program as divisional coordinator. She is hardworking and committed to work in social sector. She is also a trainer for Community health workers in Uttarakhand
Shifa Rayeen
Shifa is looking Integrated farming System and other Farmers development project as well as women empowerment through skill development and livelihood generation. She has more than 6 years of experience in grass root level field management. Presently she is involved in making model of Integrated Farming system and Rural Tourism model (farmers Home Stay). She is hardworking and committed to work in social sector. She is master in Agriculture Science.
Gajendra Tiwari
Gajendra is a young and dynamic, social worker having more than 12 years of experience in the organization. Currently he is working as a Counsellor in Target Intervention Programme as well as dot provider. He is also counselling to TB patients, Tobacco user etc.
Nirmal Negi
Having rich experience in admin and financial management and IEC Materials, documentation. He earned M com degree and more than 5 years of experience in social as well as corporate sector. He is looking financial and day to day activities of all field worker as well as monitoring and reporting of all program.
